Here's what we know about Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk's murder

WASHINGTON CITY, Utah — A former straight-A student from Utah is accused of shooting and killing conservative influencer Charlie Kirk with a bullet inscribed with a niche online meme.

Those details emerged Friday, Sept. 12, after authorities announced the arrest of Tyler Robinson in Kirk’s slaying.

Robinson, 22, is accused of shooting Kirk in the neck during a public appearance at Utah Valley University, located in the city of Orem, on Sept. 10.

It’s not yet clear what changed in Robinson’s life leading up to the shooting, but family and friends said he had become more political and angry.

The suspect in custody in connection with Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson of Utah, FBI and Utah officials announced Friday morning. “We got him,” Gov. Spencer Cox told reporters at the beginning of the press conference. On Thursday evening, Cox said, a family member of Robinson's called local authorities with information regarding Robinson's alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of Kirk on Sept. 10.

Around 10 p.m. local time on Thursday, Robinson was taken into custody, FBI Director Kash Patel said. "The arrest is a testament to good law enforcement being great," he said.

The suspect is not a student at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was shot and killed, the governor confirmed. "He was living, and had lived for a long time, with his family in Washington County,” Cox said. Earlier, the governor had thanked the Robinson family, "who did the right thing in this case and were able to bring him into law enforcement as well."

At this time, authorities believe Robinson acted alone but said that the investigation is still ongoing.
