Media respectfully asks trump about losing his friend Charlie Kirk, and his answer

says everything, both about the journalist and him.
Journalist: My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up?

Trump: I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get for about 150 years."

so he had to steer the conversation to the ballroom construction in order to keep from bursting into uncontrollable sobs.

Right?

The only person Trump cares about is himself.

He hates the attention being given to Kirk now and must
drag it back to his nonsense.

and wants to know how he's holding up. I mean......talk about a groveling non question. And if anything, it's meant to add to a narrative that trump and Vance considered Kirk family. That's another way of getting others to back off and not question their actions.

to get a quote. That quote could be a throwaway, or it could've made The Felon look disconnected again, giving greater circulation to the growing belief that he's mentally ill.

Which did it do?

Kirk's death was an opportunity to turn the stove up even higher. Which got deflated once Trump found out which side the killer was on.

Most sociopaths would at least know how to feign a fairly convincing expression of concern; Trump is too far gone even to know how to do that.
