I watch the videos and the animal videos. Have been doing so since I first joined and today I am faced with captcha for everything. This is bullshit. I have paid as a star member for years, that will stop im tired of having to prove I am human just so you can make more money.

1. Your anger is misplaced.

The site is under heavy load due to political news and political discussion. Surprised? If this political site does not have enough animal videos for you or if watching them is once in a blue moon difficult for you, there are other sites, less political sites, more animal video oriented sites.

But when your anger evaporates you are welcome to stay.

It could just clear up your issue once it’s running ok again

3. DU is at its best when processing breaking news

Many dedicated members here jump in to verify or debunk all the fast paced bullshit coming at everyone

I don't mind if it gets a bit wonky from it

4. The captchas are put up by YouTube and other sites linked here.

I even gripe mightily on Hacker News, which is frequented by techie programmers and Venture Capitalists.

The real cause is/are the explosion in "bots" which crawl the web for content, lately for AI companies. They are said to account for 30% of all web traffic.

So, people put up captchas to try to reduce the load (some small sites are overwhelmed and have to pay for the data transferred) and of course, to slow down hack attacks.
