Real Time with Bill Maher guests - Friday, September 12, 2025

Real Time with Bill Maher continues its 23rd season Friday, September 12th (10:00-11:00 p.m. live ET/7:00-8:00 p.m. PT), with a replay at 12:10 a.m., exclusively on HBO.

This week features a one-on-one interview with Charlie Sheen, actor and subject of the new two-part documentary aka Charlie Sheen on Netflix, and author of the new book The Book of Sheen: A Memoir.

This week's in-studio panel discussion will include Tim Alberta, staff writer at The Atlantic and author of The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism; and Ben Shapiro, co-founder of The Daily Wire and author of Lions and Scavengers: The True History of America (and Her Critics).

Unfortunately panel guests don’t always have a chance to talk about the reason for being invited.

Still, they will not be able to ignore recent events.

(Not sure about Sheen).

But the monologue and New Rules should be interesting.

We're attending a play tonight, another one tomorrow with a pre-party beforehand, and are going to a friends for a Sunday BBQ. Too busy for me, but sometimes you can't control the scheduling.

And I really don't care much for any of his guests, so this one might be a pass or a quick fast-forward. Alberta has some good things to say about the evangelicals, but he's still a staunch Christian who no doubt believes Mr. Maher and myself will burn in Hell.

That being said, thanks for posting!

If he's going to have Ben Shapiro on, he needs to also have Malcolm Nance who put him in his place the last time.

Enjoy your play and BBQ, and it looks like Alberta is still the best guest on tonight's show...

Charlie Sheen looks and sounds like he has ongoing damage from his many freewheeling escapades. Very strange. I really like Tim Alberta, although I don’t always agree with his views. He was pretty low key tonight. Ben Shapiro scares me. He has the crazed demeanor of a far right wing zealot. He reminds me of our only family member who worships Trump. We all know not to bring up anything remotely political around him, which I deeply resent. All I all, better than last week, but not very good.

I was not looking forward to Charlie Sheen and particularly dreaded Ben Shapiro. When he was on before he was joined by Malcolm Nance who shut him down quickly and effectively. But I do agree with you about Tim Alberta, wasn't sure what to expect from him, but I liked him as well.

And I'm pretty lucky with family members. *knock on wood* My brother used to send Nixon birthday cards and gave me a hard time because I loved Jimmy Carter, but he seems to have lost interest. And the two female cousins who I'm close to feel the same as I do. My cousin in Colorado acquired Lauren Boebert as a congressperson and is thinking of moving.
