Enough already

The killing of Charlie Kirk yesterday was horrible. I’m sorry it happened and I hope his killer is apprehended and brought to justice

But…. something about the coverage of this story bothers me. Trump ordered the flag at half staff. Apparently Kirk’s body is being flown home on Air Force 2. The story is being covered 24/7. Major politicians who have refused comments on other important events can’t get to a microphone fast enough.

Hundreds and hundreds of people have been killed with a gun over the last few years. Many of them were children. I don’t remember a single one of them going home on Air Force 2. Or in a VP motorcade. What exactly are we doing right now?

I’m still thinking of all the other gun violence victims, and all the sweet children at Sandy Hook….children who didn’t spread hate. Children who didn’t get the hero treatment from certain politicians.

There is a group in American society one might call, for lack of a better term, the political class. The political class is all of the politicians, lobbyists, fundraisers, campaigners, journalists, pundits, media executives, etc who make their living off of politics whether they are in power or not, and those who fund the same. They form an in-group. Everyone else is in the out-group.

Even ideological opposites within the in-group will be treated with more affinity than those in the out-group. As we are seeing.

… and it’s bolstered by the obvious fact this was not just some random gunman with a grudge. There were at least two men who immediately distracted by claiming they did it (distraction so the professional shooter could get away?) and this was not just a chance lucky shot.

Then there’s this: I can’t say this is definitely the same person, but… is it possible?

Trump loves all things Hitler. Hitler did this ritual using blood of Horst Wessel. In this case Charlie Kirk. Hitler had gotten rid of traitor. In this case I guess Kirk gets that role too. There was a film made so that people who couldn't attend would still be able to participate in the ritual.

I've kept my mouth shut, yesterday. I had nothing good to say. You a-holes can chip every last dollar you have to do whatever you want with him but keep my money out of it. He's duped enough Republicans out of their money to be able to afford his transport. Hell, I don't even want Vance flying around on my dollar, but that's another issue.

I totally agree with you, the administration in the oval office is going all out for Mr Kirk. What about the other victims of gun violence, they were to small to be given a second thought. The precious children, all the innocent victims and their loved ones, the invisible ones. It doesn't make sense, but that's in line with all things, with this administration.

Ironically, there was a shooting in Evergreen CO at a high school, yesterday also. I didn't see any coverage, by the main TV stations. I learned about it from a DU post.

I remember then-President Obama holding a press conference condemning the slaughter and how he fought back tears reflecting on what happened to those little kids. Hey, ever notice when Trump first slithered his way into the WH, you didn't hear the phrase "crisis actors" as much? But I digress...

27. Sorry not sorry
Thu Sep 11, 2025, 09:39 PM

I am absolutely not sorry for the murder of Charlie Kirk. He represented the exact kind of man I pray to the heavens my grandson won't be. In fact, I think the heaven-sent kiddo wouldn't even think of emulating such a drab, misogynistic religious and political hypocrite. He's been raised to be an empathetic human being, a kid who cried at a "lonely leaf" that got stuck one rainy day on his bedroom window -- he was 3 years old the time.

Empathy for a leaf versus a man who has no empathy for anyone, any thing., I do feel sorry for the family he left behind. I know they must feel sad and wary at this moment and hope they have the support they might need to deal with their grief. It was his life that was assassinated, not theirs, and may they make the best of it.

Don't misunderstand. His murder is a crime of the worse kind. It's just the murders-by-proxy that Kirk and his ilk have enabled in America make his assassination pale almost to invisibility by comparison.

Still, if the assassin were caught and judged guilty by a jury of his peers -- and I were the judge in the case -- I would sentence him to the harshest penalty available under the law. Because, even though I despised Charlie Kirk, I love the law and understand its binding effect on a nation, even one like ours that is coming apart at the seems.

I will not a shed a tear, but if the killer is apprehended, I won't join any protesters seeking his release or exoneration.

to create a narrative about "the left" and the Democrats as all being violent killers who have to be stopped and crushed. Through the use of violence, of course.

I do wonder whether CK was a victim of the American Fascist Party's need to create a pretext to crush the opposition. It strikes me as similar to the Kirov murder in the Soviet Union in 1934.

I'm not quite buying that this was a random act of politically motivated gun violence. The behavior of our nation's fascist leadership doesn't fit that scenario.

that the shooter came from a right wing background, I'd love to see our leadership start asking questions why a rightie would kill Kirk - except for Kirk's statements about releasing the Epstein files. It's troubling that while this was blowing up, the Senate voted against releasing the files. There's enough connection there to ask questions that get the Epstein files back front and center.
