There were many unsung heros on THAT day 24 years ago

One example:

A road runs along the bottom of The Hill Of Doom, with a road leading up to my house.

All the people who had Thought they had found a way to avoid the roadblocks and get onto the interstate got mired in blocked traffic.

The ladies of the townhouses two streets over sprang into action, dragging out coolers filled with ice and water bottles, passing water out to the cars and passersby.

I suspect I, and definitely my mother, might not have made it UP The Hill Of Doom if not for the ladies.
