Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau asks public to report foreigners who comment on Kirk's death

State Department suggests revoking visas of people who comment on Charlie Kirk's death

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau wrote in a post on social media platform X that he has directed consular officials to take “appropriate action” against users who praise, make light of or rationalize Kirk’s killing.

“In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” Landau said. “I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action.”

Landau noted that people can share comments of concern in his post’s response section so the State Department can “protect the American people.”

One Substack editor, Jonathan Witt, uploaded images of posts from a South African journalist Witt says has a visa. The journalist, Redi Tlhabi, said Thursday she has no empathy for Kirk, who died in a shooting, because of his beliefs on gun ownership.
“He believed gun- related deaths were acceptable and a small price to pay for gun ownerships. His position was that some would be shot and killed, and it's a small price to pay,” Tlhabi explained. “I imagine he is proud now. Argue with the wall.”

Landau shared in response to Witt's post an image of the U.S. seal in a spotlight, titled, “El Quitavisas,” which roughly translates to “The Visa Revoker.”
