Calls it like I see it: America lost one of its largest promoters of bigotry.

Charlie Kirk.

Charlie made a couple of mill $tacks for his wife and children through his podcast of hatred. A lucrative opportunity arose when Limbaugh died, so this pill bug (and a few more) made the decision to fill the void.

Live by the sword, huh?

What do we think about this sniper on the roof thing, again? The person was a pretty great marksman, I must say. Right in the jugular!?

~ I never introduced myself formally. Hello, Lila here from one the New England states. I cast my first vote in 2004 (while living in Texas), for Al Gore.

Due to my research and interest in furthering democratic causes, I stumbled onto DU several years ago. It’s good to be here. Your words radiate with me and affirm my belief that there are still reasonable citizens in this world who believe in, and wish to promote the democratic process. I’m not quite sure where I would have been these past few years without this magnificent forum, and all of you: whose thoughts I read/comment on, converse with, and share the latest breaking news about the deplorables.

From the depths of my soul and from deep in my heart ~ Thank you! Just for being here, and being you! Thanks to you all.

I found coverage lacking on this senseless crime, And this guy did have over a dozen prior violent arrests. What would your solution be?

Maybe universal healthcare? And this is a local story, not national news.

With medications, has extremely poor/nonexistent insight, denies the diagnosis... just for starters. Says that criminals have implanted devices into their brain communicating a variety of disturbing commands.

This person is in actual physical pain from tactile and somatic hallucinations. Often yelling out and falling to the floor in pain due to these hallucinations.

I have done three involuntary commitments on behalf of the family when they were reported to be walking around carrying a knife in each hand on the property. The first commitment (not by me) was the result of an arrest and involved a firearm. There is no long term care for this person and the situation for the family is very bleak.

Kirk was as sick. He died a psychopath and a grifter. He was as much of a danger to society as the man on the metro. One of them was earning his living through exploitation of the human condition and failed all of humanity. The other was failed by it and especially by Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was "just as much a danger to society as the man on the metro..."

Whew, that resonates with me.

to deal with people who have serious mental illnesses, many can't even afford medication to mitigate it.

Why did he have so many arrests? Untreated schizophrenia. No resources, few placement slots available....it's bleak.

What would your solution be? There are none the way our society is currently organized.

Charlie just sat down the instant before he was hit. The shot was for his torso. More the shooter had a good gun and a stable line of sight. So it could have been an expierenced hunter or even a drone.

any better than the notorious Father Charles Coughlin from the 1930s. The guy had an incredibly popular radio show, and grew increasingly anti-Semitic in his rants, accusing FDR of being "a tool of the bankers", etc. Eventually lost his show when major radio networks refused to renew his contracts.

It will be interesting to see who's ready to jump in and answer to that opportunity. I think the "bigger fish" have likely reached market saturation levels already. They might gain some marginal share around the edges, but if someone in Kirk's audience wanted to listen to Alex Jones or Ben Shapiro, chances are they're already doing so. So that leaves room for some real bottom feeders to gain audience share from this incident.
