https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/04/israeli-military-database-indicates-only-a-quarter-of-gaza-detainees-are-fightersOnly one in four detainees from Gaza are identified as fighters by Israels military intelligence, classified data indicates, with civilians making up the vast majority of Palestinians held without charge or trial in abusive prisons.
Those jailed for long periods without charge or trial include medical workers, teachers, civil servants, media workers, writers, sick and disabled people and children.
Among the most egregious cases are those of an 82-year-old woman with Alzheimers jailed for six weeks and of a single mother separated from her young children. When the mother was released after 53 days she found the children begging on the streets.

These detainees might be the lucky ones, if theyre allowed to eat.

One says he witnessed sexual abuse
Another says he had his head dunked in chemicals and his back set on fire

No, not lucky.
There are numerous reports by human rights groups and the UN about the systematic torture and maltreatment of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, including sexual violence and abuse. They all come back emaciated, traumatized and some with serious mental illness. Some with limbs missing due to lack of medical treatment or restraints that cut off blood circulation. There are THOUSANDS of such lucky people.
I suppose they may be luckier than the 70, 80, 90 or even hundreds who died in the prisons. Actual number unknown, as hundreds have been forcibly "disappeared". Certainly luckier than the Gaza doctor who by some accounts may have been beaten and raped to death. Or the 17-year old boy from the West Bank who was starved to death.
Indeed.

(4,698 posts)In the near term they are exacting retribution for the Hamas attack. Killing journalists, aid workers and imprisoning random civilians is just acceptable collateral damage in Netanyahu's mind I guess. In the longer term they are making more enemies who are devising new ways to terrorize Israel in return in the future and losing support of almost everyone globally.
