Adams has been offered a position at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a person with direct knowledge of the offer who was granted anonymity to speak candidly about a sensitive matter......
The Trump administrations machinations were first reported by The New York Times, which also reported discussions of finding a position for Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa to get him out of the race. Sliwa has previously rejected the idea of serving in the Trump administration.
Worried about New York City being led by a democratic socialist, Republicans, centrist Democrats and business community leaders have been eager to consolidate anti-Mamdani voters behind one candidate. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat and former governor whos running as an independent, has been their preferred choice for defeating Mamdani, the Democratic nominee.

Per polls, both are losing to "M". RWers want others to drop out. This will leave "M" and "C".
RWers desperately want NYC and the state.
Adams joined the Democratic Party to run for mayor and won, but he still was and still is a Republican.

(53,017 posts)For DU-ers not in the NYC Metropolitan area, allow me to tell you about Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa.
Trump ain't gonna get Sliwa to bow out and come to work for him.
For one thing, Sliwa has ALWAYS been a Never Trumper. He's said it multiple times when he's broadcast on RW hate radio, WABC. (Matter of fact, the station has been called Always Broadcasting Curtis for decades.
For another thing, Sliwa is one of those who is in love with the sound of his own voice. Joining Trump, he'd be uncomfortably stifled. He doesn't talk. He bloviates.
For another thing, Sliwa is the founder and head of The Guardian Angels. (They're seen either as heroes or vigilantes.) He's too independent to accept this "offer".
For another thing, Sliwa is just overly opinionated and not frequently based on accurate information.
Little known fact about Sliwa on 9/11: Both towers had been hit and had collapsed. And there was Curtis Sliwa, shouting into the microphone, and broadcasting not only on WABC, but on 1050 as well. (WEVD was sold to Disney 10 days prior and Disney owned both stations.) Sliwa was foaming at the mouth for at least six hours. His outrage was focused on "How DARE you attack MY city???!!!" It added to the surrealism of the day. Let's say his presentation didn't calm anyone down.
So, no. While I believe the NYC Republicans would let him go in a heartbeat as he's polling 13%, I also believe Sliwa's ego would not allow him to bow out of the race, that he would rather lose than to retreat.

(4,608 posts)Because, gods forbid, his policies actually work. And then more people will demand similar policies. And then the billionaires end up against the wall.
What a horrible thing that would be. 🙄

(6,231 posts)The New York Times have pretty much given up. After Cuomo's embarrassing "I can do social media, too" roll-out, they knew it was over, and have started concentrating on trying to persuade Mamdani to be more "NYT moderate."
It would be hilarious if Trump got Sliwa to drop out, though.
