Turning their own scriptures against them makes them lose their shit. It's funny to watch.

(8,894 posts)Newsom's statement and Johnson's reply. I think it is Johnson's statement and Newsom's reply.

(8,208 posts)We've had a gun problem in the US for a long time now, and it isn't getting any better through "thoughts and prayers".
Action to remove guns from the equation is long over due.
There are nearly 1.5 guns for every person in the country. It's easier to get a gun than to get a license to drive a car.
Maybe guns don't kill people, but people with guns do.
Although we are only 10th in rate of murder, only Mexico exceeds the United States in the total number of deliberate murders.

(8,894 posts)theological disagreements among Christians. James often gets quoted (and the quote is somewhat longer and more detailed than Newsom's quote). So does Matthew 25 and parallel passages. I ran across a non-Scriptural quotation somewhere - I think it was from Thomas Merton (emphasis mine only for clarification):
It it not faith OR works.
It is not faith AND works.
It is faith THAT works.
If you see a meditation going by, shoot it.

I don't think they want to hear your BS about the power of prayer!

Johnson knows that he is lying. Lying for Jesus! Democrats are not mocking the power of prayer. He certainly knows that they aren't.

(5,538 posts)The priest on the roof. When his town was flooding, a priest climbed on to the roof of his church. Soon some people in a boat, Get in Father. Well save you. No need. Save someone else. God will protect me. A few hours later another boat comes by but again the priest refuses to get in saying, God will protect me. Finally a helicopter comes and offers to save the priest but again he refuses saying, God will protect me. Well the priest drowns and goes to heaven. There he says to God, Why? I counted on you to protect me. God says, You idiot! Why do you think I sent you two boats and a helicopter?

(128,127 posts)Though I believe he said "Faith without works is dead".
James 2:14-26
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, You have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by [my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believeand tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made [d]perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
