https://www.yahoo.com/news/jake-tapper-says-cover-biden-011048868.htmlTapper said the reason the hiding of Bidens health issues was a bigger deal than the scandal that brought down Richard Nixons presidency was because Nixon was in control of his faculties when he was not drinking.
Biden, Tapper has said several times on his recent media tour, was showing routine signs of a man who was suffering from a cognitive decline, including forgetting the names of aides and celebrity supporters like George Clooney. A moment earlier, Morgan said he believed the secrecy around the ex-presidents health was a bigger offense than Watergate.

(17,321 posts)If he overhypes the importance of his now-irrelevant tabloid trash, he thinks he can balance out the critiques. But he cannot. Because the ground underneath the conversation isn't what he was counting on; it is very much shifted.
It was a dumb project from the start, except to serve -- quite cynically and opportunistically -- as RWNJ fodder/justification/distraction of The Convicted Felon's cognitive derangement. But the market for that is slim when the Orange Anus spews forth weirdo verbal diarrhea daily.
If TCF could hold it together better, by comparison, maybe this Trapper trash would have more of a market. But it doesn't. He should stop trying. This shit should be embarrassing to you! Take the loss and slink away!

(428 posts)Tapper was born in 1969. Watergate started in 1972, I believe. He has only read about Watergate. A bunch of us actually watched it happen. There is a difference.
"Nixon was in charge of his facilities when he wasn't drinking" demonstrates the level of stupidity of Tapper's analysis of the situation. Nixon's being in charge of his facilities was what caused Watergate, dumb ass.
Nixon looks like a Sunday school teacher now, but at the time we had honorable congressmen who in general thought that lying to the American people, general corruption were bad things. They thought it would be a good idea to fix that. Things change
Biden should not have run for re-election. That was hubris. He was deteriorating physically, and to a lesser extent, mentally.
But honestly, on his worst day he was better than his opponent. He could express himself in complete sentences, and may have fallen off a bicycle, but at least he could ride one. Can anyone honestly believe that the chaos we live with now would have happened under Biden?
I am disappointed in Tapper. I thought better of him. I understand trying to sell a book, but I did not believe he would stoop this low.
Shouldn't he have said "In charge of his faculties". not "facilities"?

(23,109 posts)Issues Biden may or may not have had were at worst manageable in the present tense. He was finishing his four year elected term, and he had a seasoned team around him. Clearly, often at least, he was still sharp.
But four years is a long time once someone starts entering the early stages of mental decline, and the presidency is as demanding a job as exists, period. Again, worst case, a caretaker government say in 2027 with Joe Biden functioning as a figurehead (if it had come to that) would have governed infinitely better than one under Donald Trump. Or the 25th amendment could have been invoked if things got really bad.
The question was never: Is Joe Biden still fit to serve? At any point during his first term as President, including the final months, I would have said, given his wisdom and experience, yes. The question was: How will Joe Biden hold up during four more years in office? Joe Biden is in private life now, but no doubt there will be some indications of how his health is doing that will come out. Bill Clinton is the same age as Donald Trump now; 78. Maybe Bill has lost a step or two over when he was in office but his knowledge is intact. Bernie Sanders is two years older than Joe Biden, and he still has it.
But if Joe Biden does go into a rapid serious cognitive decline, it will be seen as a scandal by many that the Democratic Party was on the verge of running him for another four year term as President.

(51,729 posts)Watergate? That was corruption.
Perhaps when Woodrow Wilson suffered a debilitating stroke after his trip for the Paris peace talks/Versailles Treaty. He was incapacitated and his Cabinet ran the government, unbeknownst to the public. That was before the 25th Amendment.
In any case, Joe Biden was in charge until TSF took his Oath of Office.
If Joe Biden weren't concentrated on his health these days, I'd say he has a potentially good case for defamation.

Watergate is brought up at 27 minutes in.
Tapper says he apologized to Lara Trump after they had a disagreement on his show where Jake was talking about Bidens stutter but Lara was saying it was cognitive decline (see clip at 28:00 minutes into video). He seems to want to get on Trumps good side.... wonder why? Is tapper scared? They mention how Hunters laptop story was covered up too!!! JFC

(7,819 posts)why anyone continues to flame on the ex President. To sell a book?
A lot of times, when you are under pressure, such as the Presidency, you function. As soon as you are not, like retired, you let down and don't function as well. Or, differently. People are different after they retire.
I think that Joe is just fine. He could have mets to the brain, but I don't think so. I'd much rather have him, even now, as the President. He is still viable. People are right. It would have worked, even if Kamala had to take over. We wouldn't be looking at Civil War 2.0.
I don't know what people wanted from him. Now that he's sick, they're acting like he was always sick. I don't know when he started with the mets to the bone, but I suspect that's why we got told. I hate people tearing him down. If he dies soon, I hope that rump is excluded from the funeral.

(4,575 posts)Trump's microphone was adjusted perfectly to his voice. Biden clearly needed to have his microphone amplified. I suspect somebody deliberately had it down too low. His voice was weak, obviously due to the fact that he was tired, with a cold. I have good hearing, and I was a speech therapist, so I could tell he was speaking clearly and coherently.

(60,281 posts)In fact, even the drinking too much was something learned only as Watergate was exposed. My guess is that the rampant Republican corruption since Watergate has made it harder for people to understand why Watergate was a big deal.
My first question is does he see the coverup of Reagan's genuine incompetence a similar problem? If not, why not? There is more likelihood that major decisions were made without Reagan. No one has yet claimed that any Biden position or decision were made by anyone but him ... as always after getting input from those around him. ( Tapper actually turns the fact that Biden created a very good, smooth running staff into something suspicious.)
Even in the wake of the terrible debate, Biden did a few public press conferences, that he had to know would be parsed for any error or misstatement. His foreign policy press conference was impressive in the nuanced, depth and insight of his comments on complex issues. That and the fact that he was personally involved with many world leaders is really more significant than the fact that he didn't recognize George Clooney! Famous as he is, isn't not recognizing a picture of a former wife AND identifying her as a woman accusing Trump of rape far worse! I would also be more concerned if he didn't recognize Harris, Jake Sullivan, Tony Blinken, Obama, John Kerry or long term Senators .... Which has not been accused. Listen to what John Kerry, who I trust as very honest had to say - https://www.thedailypoliticususa.com/p/john-kerry-defends-biden-and-calls?fbclid=IwY2xjawKioEdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHrfNhaK-sTPq8Qk32TJIc6znlRJAKUF3_RX325Ughb859N8r5L_1mCRTewcc_aem_oseTN-d3ZZP_LqGfCofODA

(60,281 posts)His goal seems to be to smear every well connected Democrat in the Biden years. Without any REAL proof, he starts with assumption that Biden was unable to function as President. He ignores that the SOTU and Biden's press conferences, in addition to public actions as President some with foreign leaders show an elderly President relying on his insight and knowledge of many many complicated issues.
What I see is the media not going out of its way to address that question. A friend posted a John Kerry interview with Christine Ananpour on Facebook that appeared to be only on her pod cast, Twitter and X. As a person close to Biden for over 50 years, certainly his comments should be more newsworthy than letting Jake Tapper spew. https://www.thedailypoliticususa.com/p/john-kerry-defends-biden-and-calls?fbclid=IwY2xjawKioEdleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHrfNhaK-sTPq8Qk32TJIc6znlRJAKUF3_RX325Ughb859N8r5L_1mCRTewcc_aem_oseTN-d3ZZP_LqGfCofODA

Mike Johnson says corruption can't be corruption if it is done in the open.
Tapper is telling us the corruption isn't all that bad as long as the person involved is in control of their faculties. Also, apparently, it was only ever an issue of concern when Nixon was drunk - because he wasn't in control of faculties during those times. (since not being in control of your faculties is the real crime in Tapper's mind)
Alrighty then.

(4,705 posts)Trump has been floundering this month, and there's little he can point to as a success. So, the loyalists and useful idiots are trying to shift attention to irrelevant stories in hopes of distracting from the far more serious and erratic behavior of the truly unfit man currently in office.
And a few extra "OMG! The Sky Is Falling" from him certainly helps his pockets and provides solid ground for the apparatchiks.

(253 posts)...of their time in office: too young; too old; too smart or dumb; too whatever.... And as long as those stories make money there will always be a Tapper or Wolff to cash the checks.
Given the leaps forward in computing power even among rival countries--see Zuchongzhi 3.0--we are fairly rapidly approaching the day when the cognitive abilities of mere humans in office will be a quaint notion. For that matter, the concept of "human" reporters will be a quaint notion.
How can we possibly see the road ahead when we constantly look in the rearview mirror?
It is modern medicine that has allowed the two oldest political candidates in history to battle it out over the last decade, but it will be modern computing power that will define the last half of this century's political battles. I hope Democrats are preparing for that reality now.
