Going through the motions
Not fully engaged
Haven’t been for some time now
Doing what I can
But, I’m weary
And don’t want to go anywhere
Could blame the cold rainy weather
Or Pat’s cancer
Or my back pain
Or the world of people
Somehow, I get up and do what I can
Dogs need me
And I love our land
Beauty all around
Somehow I manage to exercise
It’s a push
But it tells me I’m still in the game
We all age
And
My body fails me…
Pictures of my past
Dim in the distances
But then, the show goes on
Deer come to our water
To drink
Their reflections shimmer in the currents
Ducklings scurry close to their mother
Momentarily picturing my mind’s eye
Moments move along
Into the day
