They never cared for our democracy anyway.
Senate Republicans are pretending they are going to fix the disastrous Budget Bill. They are only covering their asses. They have played their game for too long. There is no going back for them, or the country, in my opinion.
They cannot put Humpty Dumpty back together again. They broke our democracy. Very little is left that can be put back together. It will have to be rebuilt from scratch.
They did it and then, they look with amazement at all the broken pieces on the floor.

(4,121 posts)The Big Beautiful Bill is getting a lot of heat some folks think its a total disaster. But whats interesting is that even across party lines, everyone seems to find at least one part they actually like.
Whether its the tax break on overtime and tips, the increased SALT cap for middle-class households, or the $1,000 newborn savings accounts these parts are striking a chord with people who normally never agree on anything.
Its rare to see a bill where both critics and supporters are saying, Well, I dont love all of it
but that part makes sense.

(7,204 posts)Thats the problem, people look at one piece that might help them but ignore all the horrific provisions that will hurt others and them. Poor people will pay more. Middle class get really no benefit.
Will the SALT tax deduction really make a difference? Only if one itemizes. Does it make sense to itemize? Only for certain people.
Tax break on overtime and tips means not counting toward social security later.
$1000 savings accounts is a pittance.
Meanwhile, destroying health care system and giving tax breaks to the rich.

(10,031 posts)Not to mention how many companies that pay payroll taxes like half the Social Security, Medicare & ...,
will switch to tips based payment.
I leave a tip to hotel maids @ $10 per night, the day I check out.
I believe hotels will now pay less for maid service so maids may have to now beg for tips to make up the loss of salary and none of that will apply to SS, Medicare or ...
Or hotels may now have a tip line on the checkout invoice to monitor those tips. Why? So they can determine how much salary to reduce and then tell those employees that they'll pay less in income tax but still get the same amount of take home pay.
Is this confusing?

(50,412 posts)Congress has no power. Courts are barely holding on. Rule of law is teetering. Yet this stupid BBBBill piles on more fees and taxes on taxpayers, inflation sure to follow to destroy citizens' equity and spending power.
Evil is evil. Don't let anyone tell you anything else.

(204 posts)Trump and Fox News will just blame the Democrats and Liberals and the MAGA Morons will believe them.
We all need to quit thinking rationally about the political future of the USA. There won't be anything rational about it. It's all chaos, corruption and crime now and the Republicans couldn't be happier.
The media surrenders to the farce a little more each day and truth tellers are learning to keep their mouths shut.

(159 posts)I'm a pretty avid reader, researcher on the Russian regime in the white house. I didn't see reporting on the BBB and what it would do to Medicare. I started seeing those articles after the BBB passed the house. Did anyone see anything from the media on the impact to Medicare?

(2,179 posts)I see the eternal spiritual Law of Karma at work here, in which a chronically or gradually worsening condition or imbalance invites an acute cataclysmic disaster. In the case of the United States, there were two chronic processes at work. First of all, we were taking our democracy, and the blessings of Liberty, too much for granted - in other words, we were getting too presumptive and complacent. Secondly, there has been a progressive dumbing down of our public education system in which graduating students no longer have the basic tools of independent, critical thinking - which is critically important in a democracy. My dear beloved father, a career diplomat, told me that there would be a lot less trouble in the world if only people took the time and trouble to think things through. Once again, I will repeat the great maxim I have coined: EDUCATION IS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM OF A DEMOCRACY!
So, the MAGAts ask Donald Trump, anxiously: "We get to keep our democracy, right?" "Wrong!" says Trump.
It's the eternal Law of Karma: Whenever a people get too presumptive and complacent about a treasure or blessing they possess, sooner or later, someone will come along who will swindle them out of it. It's as simple as that - nothing more than basic common sense.

I think the incompetent handling of the Covid pandemic was our first chance to correct the course and we did not.
Now, we are doing nothing to right the ship.
We do not know what form the karma will take. I suspect it may be economic in nature?
