House's "Big Bill" aims to cut off older people from SNAP and Medicare----

raising the "work requirements" age from 54 to 64.....

So much for Speaker Johnson's complaints about
"young men playing video games instead of working" while collecting those benefits!

I recently chose early retirement on Social Security,
which I didn't really wish to do, but thought I had no choice due to my 'personal circumstances'...

(I consider myself somewhat 'disabled', as I don't think I can do any job
which requires me to be on my feet for any extended time---
and I am 62 years old, not some "young man playing video games" ) ---

As I am now on SNAP and Medicaid, I took that into account
when I applied for early Social Security last November---

Now the Republicans are intent on forcing me into work,
or taking those benefits away..... obviously they hope to starve me.

As I understand the current provisions of their bill,
I would be cut off from those benefits in the last year before I turn 65...

(Guess I better stock up on food before that last year, right??)

So even if I managed to find a job that I could work for 20 hours a week,
the pay from that 20 hours a week, combined with my low SS income,
would make me unqualified for either program, due to total income
being above the poverty floor....

SO, THE GQP WANTS TO MAKE OLD PEOPLE WORK,
SO THAT BILLIONAIRES CAN GET A HUGE TAX BREAK!

Like the headlines of some few news stories I have seen,
this is the biggest 'wealth transfer' in the history of our nation,
IF it passes and is signed into law....

ROBBIN' TRUMP TAKES MONEY FROM THE POOR,
AND GIVES IT TO THE RICH !!!

I can only hope that being on disability will exempt me from these insane new requirements.

Keep trying to apply for disability, as it gets easier when you are older.

Wishing you all the best....

All I can say is when it comes to pass do what you can. Go back to school if you can. Some community colleges (and maybe even 4 year universities) may offer free courses. Find out what those "work requirements" are and do the bare minimum within your limited abilities. Make the system work for you where possible. And yes keep trying for SSDI.

And yes it's part of the GOP plan. Just like their healthcare plan ... If you can't afford to be sick ... die.

Sucks. I hope you pull through.

Sadly, I may be looking to do that next October when I lose the retirement annuity that ends after 10 years (great timing happening now) and cuts my already low income by nearly 20%.
I am just under the income limit now by $200 to qualify for Medicaid so even a part time job would put me over even if there still is a Medicaid to have. SNAP will be gone and likely the $184/month for healthy food I get from my Medicare Advantage plan will be gone as well.
But I'll need to do what I need to do while I can.

Here I thought I'd have a nice, quiet retirement, having enough at least to get by. I thought that as recently as 6 months ago and then everything changed.
