Noem’s sanction opens a new front in the Trump administration’s battle with Harvard. The nation’s oldest and wealthiest university, Harvard was the first to openly defy White House demands to limit pro-Palestinian protests and eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

The federal government has responded by cutting $2.6 billion in federal grants at Harvard, forcing it to self-fund much of its sprawling research operation. President Donald Trump has said he wants to strip the university of its tax-exempt status.

Many of Harvard’s punishments have come through a federal antisemitism task force that says the university failed to protect Jewish students from harassment and violence amid a nationwide wave of pro-Palestinian protests.

It also tapped into concerns that congressional Republicans have raised about ties between U.S. universities and China.
Homeland Security officials said Harvard provided training to the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps as recently as 2024. As evidence, it provided a link to a Fox News article which in turn cited a letter from House Republicans.

The Trump administration has leveraged the system for tracking international students’ legal status as part of its broader attempts to crack down on higher education. What was once a largely administrative database has become a tool of enforcement, as immigration officials revoked students’ legal status directly in the system.

Those efforts were challenged in court, leading to restorations of status and a nationwide injunction blocking the administration from pursuing further terminations.

4. Good question, I think it's about DEI

White people's history.

But that history includes the Alien & Sedition Acts which suppressed dissent, and eventually helped end impressment of American sailors on English and French ships.

Different strains of Puritanism were afoot in New England when Harvard was formed. Clergy probably had a hand in curriculum. Whether that included colonial governors or the British crown, I have no idea.

These right wing loons want to think pure thoughts, their own pure thoughts, and think everyone should think the same as them. So they are very disturbed when facts or logic don't fit their mental schemes. Their scripts are sacrosanct. They are OK with whatever means are used to achieve their goals, including using the power of the federal government to suppress dissent, to sanitize curriculum and scholars, to eradicate free-thinkers.

That's what it's like in fox news suburbs too. The Fairy News Mother comes out and circulates, telling all the wishy-washy neighbors the news, what to think, what church to attend. THis is about the 5th revival wave in American history.

13. It's not just future students.

Current students have to transfer to other schools or they will loose their visas.
I don't think majority of students will be able to transfer. So they will have to leave the country.
