I single out three/four men who made it possible.
Phil Boyce: He was the program director of WABC Radio in New York City. He brought Rush Limbaugh to New York from Sacramento. Then former ABC Radio Network executive Ed McLaughlin offered to syndicate Limbaugh, which made his rants available across the nation. He started the MAGA audience by making it comfortable to get angry at their lack of education and lack of a stable middle class life.
Roger Ailes: He got FOX off the ground with his line-up of female hosts who were blonde and shapely and male hosts who recreated their best years in the proverbial middle school boys room. It was entertainment pimping as "news". It was more fun than watching Dan Rather.
Mark Burnett: He created The Apprentice, which introduced Trump to the regions outside of NYC. Made him look like a high-powered and successful property developer, which we all know isn't true. But the image helped to propel the Trump brand into the WH.
And here we are.

(104,891 posts)I swear the minute Alex Jones showed up, that's when things went to shit. Sandy Hook, I'm convinced, is the turning point where this country got hijacked by fascists and never looked back. That should have been the end of the gun debate, period, when kindergarteners and their teachers got murdered in their classroom.
But nope, that worthless fucking lower than dirt asshole said they were "crisis actors" and that the government was using this as an issue to take away our guns. And then his minions went and heckled and abused those poor victims basically out of existence. He should have been stopped when we had the chance. Alex Jones and all of his bullshit is Rush Limbaugh metastasized.

(1,385 posts)when Louis Powell, in his notorious document, suggested, amongst other items, that Republicans and the business community should start their own media outlets to push back on liberal society and policies he felt were harming American businesses. Those with money, such as Murdock, heeded the call and here we are today. Propaganda be damned.

(19,334 posts)The "Trump Town Hall?" Their brainchild, even though Chris Licht became their sacrificial lamb.
The shift to "Fox News Lite?" These two guys call ALL of the shots.
All of the "whataboutism," all of the Republicans who are invited on to recite Republican talking points, unchallenged?
Add those names to your list.
