Kristi Noem blocks Harvard from enrolling international students

BOSTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump's administration revoked Harvard University's ability to enroll international students on Thursday, and is forcing existing students to transfer to other schools or lose their legal status, the Department of Homeland Security said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered the department to terminate Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, the department said in a statement. Noem accused the university of "fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party."

Harvard will demand that Noem and the executive branch show proof of authority to
issue such a blatantly unconstitutional and illegal order. Noem didn’t even know what
the meaning of Habeas Corpus was. I would be surprised if Harvard’s attorneys are
not in court or have filed something by the end of this day.

Hours after Harvard University sued the Trump administration for revoking its ability to enroll international students, a federal judge temporarily barred the Department of Homeland Security from allowing the change to take effect.

U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs, a Barack Obama appointee, granted the Ivy League school's request for a temporary restraining order on May 23.

Snip

Harvard's complaint, filed in federal district court in Massachusetts, called the Trump administration's move a "blatant violation" of the First Amendment, Due Process Clause and the Administrative Procedures Act.

his certification is managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is required for institutions to host students on F-1 and J-1 visas.

On May 22, 2025, Secretary Noem announced the immediate revocation of Harvard University's SEVP certification. This action prohibits Harvard from enrolling new international students and mandates that current international students—numbering nearly 6,800—transfer to other institutions or risk losing their legal immigration status.

The DHS cited Harvard's alleged failure to address antisemitism on campus and purported coordination with the Chinese Communist Party as reasons for the revocation. Secretary Noem emphasized that enrolling international students is a privilege, not a right, and that institutions must adhere to federal standards to maintain this privilege.
Harvard has condemned the action as unlawful and retaliatory, asserting that it undermines the university's academic mission and harms its community. The university is working to provide guidance and support to affected students and is pursuing legal avenues to challenge the decision.
This development is part of a broader pattern of increased federal scrutiny and intervention in higher education institutions, particularly those perceived to be promoting ideologies contrary to the administration's policies. The situation remains dynamic, with potential legal challenges and policy implications unfolding.

They took away Harvard's financial aid.

bullying and destroying that which he doesn't understand, can't obtain, is rejected by...and which has a whole lotta money he thinks he can put in his pocket, if he just keeps at it.

One day, this will be over. I hope we shun those that participated in the destruction of our institutions. Many people consider Harvard to be the best educational institution in the world. Regardless of what you think, the Orange Turd is evil in his intent. Harvard will survive. He won't.
