We were watching one of those news channels on YouTube. They showed a picture of a a starving child in Gaza. You know the one. We've all seen it before. The one where their stomach is bloated yet you can see all their ribs. There are some 14,000 kids and babies that are going to die in Gaza in the next couple of days. We'll, with that vision and the story droning in the background I got sick. I could feel my body convulse and emotion run through my body, if that possible. I was so angry. I'm in my sixties and I've never felt anything like this. I yelled some stuff at the T.V. Then my wife said she was going to be sick. She doesn't cry much because of her medication, but she was crying too. She said she didn't think she could watch it. I said we are a sick world, we are a sick f#cking people. And we shut it off.
We, as Americans should be ashamed of ourselves. American acceptionalism I think not. We are losing ourselves. I am not a negative person but I have eyes.
As far as the crying and being physically sick ,I think we're just tired, sick and tired.

(72,541 posts)and i wish to remind that hamas has plenty of money and resources it cd b providing, but its not. its leaders r sitting in quatar, on cushions of millions of stolen aid money.
they didnt allow civilians into the tunnels where they cd have sheltered. they have food stores that r only given to soldiers. israel bombs schools and hospitals because thats where hamas hides.
and they have yet to release their hostages, or even return bodies of the dead.
they knew good and god damned well what wd happen after oct 7.
yes, it is a horrific situation, but any discussion of it that doesnt include a discussion of the absolute evil of hamas is incorrect.
please, ppl. dont fall into the jew hating that this coverage is MEANT to stir up.
the fact that it tugged your heartstrings so hard shd make u stop and think. and maybe read up.

(93 posts)So you're asking why I posted a post that didn't mention jews or jew hating or hating jews. We'll, first of all I was posting about starving children. There are starving children in Gaza. I posted it before I learned the story was partially debunked. I say partially because the number may not be 14,000 and the time table may not be 48 hrs but without help real soon children and babies will die. I don't have a side and maybe that's what pisses you off. As far as reading up, no thanks. I've read enough to know there's enough hate over there to last a zillion years. Is it so hard to feed people? Any people, all people and especially children who can not fend for themselves. I've only been on DU about 7 months and it amazes me how many people want to pick fights. I said nothing offensive. Unless you consider starving children offensive, in that case we're in agreement.

(72,541 posts)the whole thing is complicated, emotional, and in many cases, being used by ppl w bad intent to stir up hatred. its long been a tough topic here, to the point where it has its own forum. its only being allowed in gd because of oct 7, and the impact of the election. perhaps its time to go back to that.
bad actors, pretending to care about the ppl of gaza blew the whole issue up to harm joe biden. and it worked. those protests were not organic. its a shame this is no longer sent to the israel/palestine forum. but if it is to b allowed here, ppl shd b called out for incorrect statements.
very few ppl here have the facts and perspective to add anything to the discussion. so much of the tropes being bandied about r old libels that have been around so long they r taken for fact. i actually rarely bother to join in. sometimes u just have to let ppl b wrong. but that number has gone around the world w the usual speed of lies, and numbers have a way of sneaking past our filters. so i felt it important to correct it.
Fair enough. Peace.

(9,773 posts)Never before in the world have we seen a live genocide of mostly children in real life on our phones day after day - dead kids, burnt kids, shredded kids, people holding up the leg of a toddler, a little kid who is still alive with an arm sticking out of rubble, kids with limbs blown off still alive etc I can barely take it any more. The whole world is upset with Israel - every country has continual protests.
We all sit here comfortably in our homes when these poor people are living in tents that are being bombed every night/day. The hospitals are constantly bombed - the kids cant wash, they have all kinds of infections because of their horrible diets. If they have food - its usually bread - almost no protein. So many kids are missing limbs.Probably those who live will have cancer from all the toxins in the air. How can one not get physically sick over this? How can the world sit back & let this happen. How is this affecting our kids to see such unbearable suffering of other kids??

(9,773 posts)Almost the entire population of Gaza is acutely malnourished and many are on the brink of starvation.
History will not forget U.S. complicity in enabling this horrific humanitarian disaster.
Congress must end funding for the Netanyahu war machine NOW.

We strongly oppose the expansion of Israels military operations in Gaza. The level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable. Yesterdays announcement that Israel will allow a basic quantity of food into Gaza is wholly inadequate. We call on the Israeli Government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. This must include engaging with the UN to ensure a return to delivery of aid in line with humanitarian principles. We call on Hamas to release immediately the remaining hostages they have so cruelly held since 7 October 2023.
Why isn't the Land of the Free and Home of Brave (LOL) doing the same?

(5,608 posts)For over one and one half years, there were warnings and no one with power to
stop it, listened. You are right, we all share responsibility.
Now we know how crimes against humanity happen in front of the world and everyone
turns away in denial. We were supposed to have learned how to stop this; we were supposed to be
better. That is what we told us ourselves; we were better than those who commit these crimes.
We were different. Now we know we are no different. And that puts of us all at risk to be dehumanized.
in the same or other ways as the Gazans.
