Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs a supporter of Palestinian rights, the murders of these two Israeli diplomats PISSES me off. Cold blooded murder of
this sort has NO justification and NO EXCUSE. The loser who did this is, imho, a "True Believer" sort who looks for a cause -- any cause -- to give their life "meaning" and purpose. I'm opposed to the death penalty for a variety of reasons, but cases of this type help me to understand -- but not agree with -- those for it.
This also DEEPLY damages the actual plight of the Gazans. Hamas can go to hell as far as I am concerned, but not the civilians caught in this humanitarian crisis.

(1,051 posts)one declare themselves morally opposed to murder and then gun down in cold blood an UNARMED, non-combatant couple visiting a freakin' museum? If guilty, he's no more a human rights activist than Charles Manson was a "flower child":

(485 posts)It's the logic that says if you kill baby Hitler you stop WWII and the Holocaust, so that murder is justified by the greater good in that one murder is better than millions. Where it immediately falls apart internally is that these two people don't fit the description of a unitary actor that could stop the disaster in Gaza. Then there's that the great man of history theory that any one individual could do that at all is pretty silly, and that the disaster in Gaza has many responsible parties and killing these two not only isn't going to do even the slightest to stop it, it has a chance to just inflame it.

(344 posts)The first assumption many of us will make is these were revenge killings by the Palestinians or their supporters, but we should not jump the gun here.
Would any of us be surprised if this was perpetrated by the right wing and/or white supremacists and this administration will use it to crack down on Palestinians and their supporters?
Wherever this goes, it would be nice if we had strong investigative journalism in this country instead of the teleprompter reading bubble heads who dominate today's news rooms.

(6,146 posts)someone with family in Israel and whose family was involved in French resistance and lost lives in WW2 I still believe that nothing Israel has done can ever justify this murder. And I am very very much against what Israel is doing. There still is no justification. Innocent people should not be murdered. And these two innocent people should not have been sacrificed for the government of Israel.

(60,270 posts)except that she was an American from Kansas and he was Israeli and both worked for the embassy as very junior staff. Just as there are still some liberal Democratic career State department people working at US consulates, these people might personally opposed Netanyahu's policies. Even if they did, there is absolutely no justification in killing them and it will likely hurt Palestinian rights not help them.

Yaron Lischinsky was the finest friend Ive ever had, brilliant, kind, and endlessly thoughtful. A devout Christian and a gifted linguist, he spoke German, Hebrew, and Japanese. He was full of curiosity and always brimming with ideas. I dont think we ever had a conversation that didnt leave me inspired to write something new.
He loved America. He was excited about the future, about finally visiting Texas, and about the life he and his beloved fiancée were building together. I was supposed to meet her today.
They are both gone. And the loss is immeasurable. The world has lost two extraordinary souls. And I have lost a dear friend who made every moment brighter.

Sarah Milgrim, 26, was a passionate peace activist.
She held a Masters in International Studies from American University, and a second Masters in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development from the United Nations University for Peace.
At the Israeli Embassy in Washington DC, she dedicated her work to building a future where Israelis and Palestinians could live side by side in peace and dignity.
She also volunteered with Tech2Peace, an organization that brings together young Israelis and Palestinians to foster dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation.
When Elias Rodriguez shot her, simply because she was Jewish, he murdered not just a bright young woman, but the very kind of person our world so desperately needs: someone working tirelessly to create a more peaceful, just, and shared future for all.
May her memory be a blessing.

Instead of trying to knock down conflict, they keep throwing in matches and take joy in watching the world burn.

(1,051 posts)I dont know what to make of that. Is this the end result of all of these protests? Brainwashing? Drugs?
I wonder if he was stalking these people? There seems to be no shortage of people popping off lately. I saw that a guy blew himself up at an abortion clinic the other day?
Ive been wrapped up in my business and a long list of domestic things that I havent really had the time to take it all in. I just read here today that they are raising my taxes. Im already being taxed out of existence.
