On around my 5th trip to Europe (business) a couple days were in Milan. This was early to mid 90s
I took a couple guys with me that had never been out of the country.
As we drove by a gas stations and these guys see 1050 lira on the sign. Some quick mental math had them saying "Wow, gas is cheap here! That's only about 95 cents a gallon!"
I had to tell them "Guys, that's per liter. It's around $3.60 per gallon."
It no longer seemed cheap to them, because we were paying about a buck thirty.
