Don't be!! The amazing, new and improved Godswillaway (TM) is a patented method to whisk away any remnants of guilt or fragmented awareness of how your stupidity killed your children - and maybe even other children down the block or elsewhere in the world!!
It doesn't just assuage a nagging conscience! Godswillaway's fresh lemon scent actually breaks down and destroys annoying household odors at the same time that it breaks down and destroys your ability to think logically, and to absorb new information.
But wait, there's more! Along with its soothing powers and great fresh scent, it's also a great way to clean and polish, whether it's a greasy stovetop, or an child-sized casket in need of a quick dusting. Spray some on and see for yourself!!

for people who are willfully stupid. If their children die, it is entirely the parents fault.

(109,933 posts)mount a sufficiently protective immune response no matter how much we vaccinate them--
It is the above who are put at risk when the majority of children (and adults) are not vaccinated. This is especially true for measles, where immunity approaching 95% or higher is necessary to prevent outbreaks. Soon, we may be seeing a resurgence of German measles (i.e., rubella)--likewise part of the MMR vaccine--and which can result in congenital defects in as many as 90% of babies born to infected mothers. Many die.
And for pertussis (whooping cough?) it is the adults --the parents and grandparents typically--who have not received a recent vaccine, who are putting the youngest children (too young to vaccinate) into the hospital. Adults should be receiving tetanus every 10 years, and that tetanus should be part of a pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap) to avoid this problem.
So, my point? It is not just the families who don't vaccinate who suffer. This is why individual "choice" is not a 'laudible' goal but a horrific tragedy-- just waiting to happen-- for society on the whole.

(23,744 posts)My reply was somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction, as you wrote. Thanks for your detailed response with which I mostly agree.
While I'm aware of the children who cannot get certain vaccines, I'm also aware of a greater number of people who deny the science that has protected us for my entire life of nearly 70 years. During the Covid pandemic, there were many people who "did their own research" on the internet. As if any of them really have the scientific knowledge or understanding of medicine. Their "research" was too often BS YouTube videos by loud mouth fools like Joe Rogan who really do not know much of anything. To encapsulate my thoughts there was a sign in my doctor's office that said, "Please do not confuse your internet "research" with my decades of study, experience and research."
So-called herd immunity is critical for vaccines to work properly to protect the public at large. As you cogently point out, it's not just the children who need the vaccines but us older folks need it too to protect those around us.
I am mostly a fair-minded man who has empathy for others. I'll offer help if it's obvious someone is struggling. But when it comes to the MAGA types, I have nothing to offer them. They don't care about others so why should I give a damn if they condemn their children or themselves to these entirely preventable diseases?
Here's a personal anecdote to illustrate my experiences. A distant in-law on my ex-wife's side had a tween who caught Covid back in 2021. She died because her parents believed the nonsense that the vaccine contained nano-bots. I refused to attend the funeral and I've cut them out of my life. By the way, they have always expressed violent hatred of Democrats and their undisguised hatred of President Obama was steeped in bigotry.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to write an intelligent reply to my post.
