That film is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's High and Low, which I have seen.
The original Japanese title actually means Heaven and Hell but they changed the title in America.
One of Kurosawa's favorite authors is Dostoevsky.
In the original, a Japanese executive's chauffeur's son is kidnapped.
The kidnapper intended to kidnap the executive's son.
Kurosawa's film raises moral questions whether executive is responsible for others.
