Am I the only one amazed that things come fully charged now?

Considering how long these items have been in manufacturing, storage, and shipping they are ready to go out of the box.

I bought battery jump boxes for our cars about 6 months ago. I got a tire inflator for Christmas. Both came fully charged.

BTW - those things are great to charge a phone while waiting in a hospital room as I did a lot last year. A lot of hospital rooms aren’t upgraded for phone charging unless you bring a wall socket converter.

We got a new umbrella for our deck. Solar powered. Connected all three plates and the lights came on.

Just got a voice recorder thing at work. USB w/ converter powered. 3/4 battery charge.

Have batteries just got that much better?

Any charge is a hazard in shipment, IMO.

Not so long ago, laptops were bursting into flames in airplanes. Now, perhaps THAT part of battery technology has improved. The "do not self-incinerate" part??? I hope so.

I am sure that's why items shipped uncharged in the past. Why and when it changed, I don't know.

Non-rechargeable batteries ship with an insulating strip to deactivate the devices in transit. Some rechargeables? I suppose so.

I got a portable power pack for charging things in the car. The auto 12 volt power outlets only work while the alternator is running. No EV's here to make a comparison!!

And FWIW, a DieHard jumpstart battery failed to turn over a contractor's truck after some work here.
Jumper cables worked great.

I try to keep it as close to 100% as I can these days.

And check out the new "long range" Tesla batteries!! WOW.

I carry cables even though my battery is too small to actually jump anything.

6. Maybe some day you'll need a boost!

Hope it doesn't happen to you.

One time I called road service for a boost. It took hours. YUCK.

Another time I was in the cellphone lot at the airport around midnight, and someone needed a boost. Made good use of my otherwise crummy time.

Coastal Virginia

Very cool. I think Cav Scouts don’t have an official motto ….but I’d guess there’s cussing involved.

8. Pretty sure the shipping companies are aware of the hazards

As are their insurance companies.

If trucks, planes, ships, etc were catching fire on a regular basis, they wouldn't allow the cargo.
