The cost is going to be comparable to a high-end Uber ride apparently.
The games are expected to bring more than 15 million visitors to the region, and traffic congestion is likely to be a challenge. Archer says its short-hop flights, lasting around 10 to 20 minutes, could offer an alternative to ground transportation for those traveling between high-traffic areas.
... the aircraft ... carries four passengers plus a pilot and produces less noise and emissions than a helicopter.

First, let's make sure that foreign visitors and athletes aren't imprisoned upon arrival and that we have functioning air traffic control (by sending the GOP to hell) and then having good judgment rule instead of expediency, given what happened to Kobe Bryant and daughter. Bad weather, and a copter flight to bypass traffic.

I don't know if the company has any in commercial production, or if it's tested them with real passengers. But if the LA Olympics want to try out this new rich person's toy rather than invest in public infrastructure - well, fools and their money etc.

(52,357 posts)They're kinda like an Osprey, except they're electric, they have six propellers rather than two rotors, and they're not full of pissed-off Marines like MV-22s are.
Other than that, there's no real issue with the technology. I do wonder though: with all the people going to the Olympics that will want to fly on them - which basically means everyone that'll go to the Olympics because air taxis are such a cool idea - do these charge fast enough to meet the demands that'll be placed on them?

(19,059 posts)The actual machines look nothing like that. Archer Aviation have plenty of videos on their site, but no stills that can be linked, but you can have a look at the wings and propellors that have been edited out here: https://www.archer.com/aircraft
