Just the stocked up on the usual grocerny iteams. Walmart delivered them OK, except tor two litters of a soft drink. I assumed they were out of the brand I wanted.
They mailed them to me. I check my mail box today at the developments multiple mail box bank and found the large box key in my regular box. There were the two litters of soft dring. Heavy and wrapped tandem style in Walmart plastic bags.
WTF? That makes no sense. How do they afford to send soda by mail. And why?

(60,320 posts)If Walmart eats the shipping on them once, you might order hundreds of times from them over the next few years.

(61,033 posts)No mailing expense and delayed order for the customer.
Not a good business model/expense, or way to service customers quickly IMO.

(16,640 posts)Since they weren't able to fulfill your soda with the rest of your order, they mailed it to ensure that you still got it.
Better than my experience yesterday with a major auto parts chain. Saw that a small tool was for sale at a huge discount. My local stores were sold out, but it was available in a store 50 miles away, so I placed an online order for store pickup. I was headed in that general direction in a few days, so figured I could make a detour to pick it up.
Get an email confirming my order, but never got the email stating it was ready to pick up. I called the store the day before to verify that it was indeed ready, and "Ross" assured me that it would be ready.
Of course when I showed up, not only wasn't it ready, they did not have it in inventory. I griped that I had just called the day before and look over and see a guy standing there with a name tag "Ross", not saying a word. Clearly when I called, he couldn't be bothered to actually look, but just made it up. Still 😡

(11,578 posts)it will have a notation if the item is unavailable for delivery, and they will offer the shipping option which you can reject if you wish. Note also that you have the option of specifying potential substitutes for any/all items, and you'll receive the substitute if the ordered item is unavailable. They will e-mail/text you beforehand if this arises.
There is a learning curve, but once you "get it", it all makes sense. I've been using their service often of late and find they do a wonderful job.

(76,895 posts)Very limited options for food here. What a coincidence, right?
I shop mostly at Aldi, but order a few things from Kroger & Sprouts.
Can you order other items in the store with delivery service, or is it limited to food only?
Weird abouf your soda.

(34,407 posts)which saved my soul. It's a trial delivery as I haven't yet coughed up the annual fee. The second go around with household supplies wasn't as good. Broken bottle of dishwashing detergent, some replacement for something else. It's about 20 mins away so in the winter it might be worth it.

(34,407 posts)I'd printed out. Went to the store waited on line was told to go outside and around the back of the store where you pick up orders. They told me to go home, get the receipt, bring it back and they'd take care of it. Sat in my parking space, waited, eventually all was a-okay. 20 minute trip took a few hours. Kind of the way I roll these days. Everything a production.

(76,895 posts)With Instacart, I just make notation on review of order & select if I want refund or Instacart credit. Quick & easy. But they mark all products up, too.

(34,407 posts)I played in the production. I should have called them and asked the easiest way to return instead of going all willy-nilly. I never did ask them

(1,831 posts)I love the delivery and pick up from there. Groceries always arrive on time.
Before you check out you can specify yes/no to substitutions. Walmart gives you suggestion for subs and you pick the one you want.
You also get Walmart cash on some groceries! 👍
Sometimes I get aggravated about an item not being in store. But gotta say it always arrives and on time.
In 5 years, Ive only had one complaint about something I ordered. Customer Service issued a refund and didnt have to return grocery item.

(67,796 posts)I had Stop and Shop deliver for a while and they did NOT allow for you to pick a substitute if they were out of a product. Also, there was a delivery fee of $10 and I tipped the delivery person another $10.
That $20 add to every delivery really added up and I was frustrated and angry. Food prices had gone up so much that that $20 was simply unworkable with my budget.
Now I go shopping 3 days a week and get much smaller loads which I can more easily carry in. I don't mind and I actually like to visit the food. My only problem is that even with a list I forget certain items, but I know that I'll be back soon so I don't really have to make an extra trip.

(1,831 posts)All the info. I love it! Pay a little more for groceries but I save a ton of money! Hubs and I are both impulse shoppers.🙄 Soooooo a shopping list means nothing!😂
The price has gone up since I first joined.

(67,796 posts)brand of stuff I paid more for because it was a "name" product, but the store brand was cheaper and on products you use a lot of, it's a real savings. And I look for a generic everything. Why pay more for just a name? Not everything works out but then I just switch back or look for a cheaper brand. I do this constantly.

(1,753 posts)I use Walmart delivery for groceries because I can no longer go through the store. Sometimes an item is listed as out of stock, but you can always get a different brand. Or they'll ask if you want them to ship it to you, no charge.
I can't get one of my prescriptions delivered, it requires refrigeration and isn't allowed. But anything else, can get it with no issues.
I ordered a caulk gun, it was free delivery. The person who delivered it even set out the bin I have for groceries and put the package in it. I had no idea that would happen, figured it would come in the mail. (I have groceries put in a plastic bin so the cats can't get into anything, they act like they're starving and are just as happy to eat my food as theirs.)
People like to complain about Walmart, but they're no worse than any other corporation. They sell stuff at decent prices, their items are good, and the employees work damned hard for their salary. We should show them respect, even though the Walton family is a bunch of Trump humpers. This hatred of Walmart shoppers and employees is insane. Trust me, no one at Target gets treated any better, and shoppers pay more for it.

(2,377 posts)since my loss of vision prevents me from driving anymore. It has been a godsend for me. I think their plan is compete with Amazon Prime. Along with delivery from the local store, you get free shipping on anything they have in stock. They promise to deliver anything that they have in the local store. I get fresh sliced turkey breast from the deli, you can order oincrements of a quarter of a lb., half pound or multiple pounds. socks, hair spray, furnace filters, even a 55 inch tv set. The young lady could barely carry it, but she got here from me. Everything I've gotten has been fresh .
I never liked the fact that Wal Mart moved into our little town and killed off several local businesses, but it is very popular here (big time MAGA area!) But I'm happy with their service and they are cheaper than our grocery store and their workers are always helpful and pleasant.
I do not, nor never did, work for Wal Mart or have any other ties to them.

(2,236 posts)only because we live in a remote part of Nevada with very few stores close by This has saved us enormous driving time and cost. Many orders come in separate boxes on different days and they often send a whole box with only one small item. Very wasteful. Walmart has big contracts with the mail, FedEx and UPS and doesn't care about wasting shipping costs or resources, because they have fixed contracts. I suspect it's really the mail, FedEx and UPS which are taking the real cost hit, but they put up with it because the contracts are too big to turn down.

(61,033 posts)about the waste. My situation is different as Vons, Safeway, and Smith's are nearby so I won't go with Walmart again. Shifts is another option. They're not a store but will shop and deliver to you from the closest grocery store, and on the same day with one delivery.

(5,636 posts)that is 1/2 the price it is anywhere else. I usually order four 5# bags at a time.
The kicker? Shipping is free on purchases of $35 or more. 3 bags would meet that. I have no idea how they can continue to do this.

(9,381 posts)Keep it. Sometimes I will order it again. I have a ramp on my porch and I put wagon at the foot of it for the delivery to use. They will wheel it to the door for me. I really like it. I haven't been in a supermarket in several years. I do go to a nearby fruit market from time to time.
