I am uncomfortable to give them details about my bank account yet I realize that it is key to the transaction. I need any information you can give about these transactions and if you have had any problems with them.
Thanks so much.

(16 posts)Never had a problem. I set up a PayPal account and transactions run through there - only keep around $200 in there.
Only issues have been sketchy buyers. Item paid for then they message and say "Can you ship it here instead?" Always ship to the address in ebay.

(4,965 posts)I had a separate checking account to receive money from my sales.
Also I have a separate 'small credit line' credit card to make purchases.

(51 posts)They contact you through eBay saying they are the buyer. They give some excuse as to why they wont be home when the item arrives and they ask you to ship it to another address. Never ship your item to an address that is different than given to you by eBay.

(29,518 posts)I can transfer funds from one to the other, and that isolates my primary bank account from untrustworthy entities.
I use that second account for property tax payments, college payments, insurance payments. I used a brand new debit card this past November to pay a tax fee to the township. Somewhere, either internal bank fraud or the clearinghouse processing the payment, compromised the account and that debit card showed three fraudulent charges a couple of months later. The bank flagged them, and I called the township to let them know what happened. This way they can check if other fraud is occurring.

Tips: even if you're not using the account frequently check it - once someone hacked in from Europe and was trying to buy Rolex watches on my account a few years ago. I have never connected my account to a checking account so they couldn't really do anything and eBay fixed it (they can see a lot with IPs - that's how they traced where the scammer lived).
Paypal: I still have 2 accounts, one personal and one business from selling leggings ten years ago ... Use paypal and if they require a checking account for selling open a small one at a local bank so you know exactly what is coming and going. I would never connect it to a household account.
Descriptions/Shipping: Good photos and priority shipping make people happy. I was not selling to make a profit, simply unload things at a little better rate than a garage sale, and when I had time. It worked for me to go out of my way to make the customers happy, keeping 100% positive feedback is golden.
I mostly used my account for selling/buying collection items at first, and then maternity and kids clothes. It's been awhile since I actively sold, but I would do it again. I always found them ok to deal with as both a buyer and seller.
good luck!
