(23,128 posts)And I'm confident that the number of Americans who feel the same way is actually in the millions. I just hope it reaches the tens and tens of millions to put him over the top as president someday. He would be one of the greats, I believe.

(1,729 posts)He's a brilliant Harvard grad and Rhodes scholar, and can answer any question on policy seamlessly without getting flustered. Yet he also has that charisma and genuineness that people can hear when he's talking. I absolutely believe that just like Obama did when he gave his speech at the DNC convention in 2004, Pete is going to continue to build a following.
No one would have thought a Black guy named Barack Hussein Obama could have been elected president in 2008 and guess what? That's exactly what happened.
I absolutely believe 2028 is going to be a change year. Pete is inspiring, and right now this country needs hope. My Threads feed yesterday was absolutely FULL of Pete Buttigieg, and it wasn't people saying he can't win because he's gay. It was all people who were crazy excited that he may run. We need that excitement right now.

(24,374 posts)If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. That you really love Buttigieg does not mean he can be elected president. People were just as fired up about a woman being president, but both lost to Trump.
Don't compare Obama's being elected with Buttigieg being able to be elected. Frankly, there are Democrats who would vote for a Black man before they would vote for a gay man.
We need a safe choice in '28 that's not a gamble to be elected and that's not Buttigieg.
Were he to win the nomination, I would vote for him just I have voted exclusively for Democrats for over 50 years now. I have voted for more than one Democrat for president that I was sure would lose and that's how I would feel about voting for Buttigieg.
J.D. Vance doesn't have the mental capacity to be elected President of the United States.

(1,729 posts)Pete has that magic factor. We need someone our voters are EXCITED about. Social media is exploding with posts about Pete. I don't see that (ever) with posts about most of the other names that keep getting tossed out as possibilities. No one knows about Beshear. The only time I see Newsom mentioned is when people are trashing him in my feed (mostly democrats, btw.) We need someone that voters are inspired by, someone who has heart, just like Obama. I think that person is Pete.
I'm voting for the best candidate, and that's Pete.

(1,729 posts)to the straight white Christian male contingent for 2028.
I'm not settling and I'm not willing to let the republicans pick the democratic candidate, which is exactly what we're saying as soon as we decide the candidate must be a straight white Christian male. Nope. None of those candidates look particularly promising to me at this point, sorry.
