I think she needs to moderate the name calling. 'Hot wheels' ...... 'white boy'.

Name calling isn't a very strong argument and diminishes her message which I agree with.

Name calling is ...... Republican.

Not acceptable in polite company given the context.

How about 'hot wheels'?

Also a common expression in her community? It's not in mine.

We don't have to be like them.

I suspect she'll learn to moderate herself. That's what I would expect from an intelligent person because I do believe she is an intelligent person.

I'm no historian but I don't think racial epithets were forbidden back then.

Commonplace, actually. Acceptable.

Decent folks make an effort to address people in the way that they prefer. Pronouns or whatever that happens to be.

to worry about their votes in red states. Funny how that works. If white boys is so offensive in this country, with its history of white boys, then this country is beyond repair. Not because of the current administration, but because of the people who get upset about 'white boys'. Play that funky music....

other than.....what?..........isn't a great way to win in a Democracy.

That compute for you?

What percentage of voters is OK to give away so you can call them whatever name you want? Because......historical injustice gives you the right to be offensive?

1%? 2 or 3%?

White men are around 30% or the US population.

News flash......Democrats are under performing with that demographic.

Got to learn to defeat and deflect bro culture to win elections.

Or wait another 20 years until demographics catch up.........but no ironclad promises there for Democrats.

She didn’t call anyone boy. She just used a generic expression in a general discussion. And anyone who won’t vote for a democrat because a representative from another district used the word boy when Trump and republicans are destroying our democracy, wouldn’t vote for democrat anyway. Those offended are choosing to be offended as an excuse to slam a woman of color because they are threatened by her and others like her.

Kind of seems like you are.

Bit rude. Probably against the rules here but I'm not thin skinned so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Still, not cool.

What state do you live in? Just curious to give our shared experience context. Also grew up in the 70s.

Calling a man of any race 'boy' in the wrong context is a quick way to escalate an argument where I live.

I've lived in 5 states, most in the northeast. The very idea that 'white boy' could possibly have the same inference as calling a black man a 'boy', is preposterous. Calling any man a 'boy' would not have the same meaning as calling a black man a boy, but it would be demeaning or derogatory regardless of race. Finding a white boy to run for President is what we need to do, if we want to win in states that won't vote for any other species. Do you not recall the inference of 'white boys'? There is no way anyone who breathed the same air as me in high school in New York would come to that conclusion.

If using the word boy will cause some males not to vote, that’s on them. We have a madman in the White House who is going to cause a depression. Let’s focus on the immediate threat . Mountain folk use the term for black and white people, we deal with it.

I am sick of being told to be better than people who want to destroy me. Someone said white boy not to you but as a requirement to be the next president and you became offended. Try being a minority or a woman and you will have worse said to your face.I’m tired and angry at the people who put that racist monster in the White House and that is what I am focused on.

Why the self-own?

Is speaking out. Black folks have always had to watch what they say , they might offend the dominant culture. Don’t braid your hair perm it, don’t wear your ancestral colors, don’t stand up and speak out you may lose your job. I am proud to say young black folks don’t give a fig and they are speaking truth. If white males are offended they need to check where they are coming from because if you are so offended you will vote for a rapist and convicted felon, you were never an ally.
